Immigrant & Refugee Women’s Program (IRWP)

The Immigrant & Refugee Women’s Program (IRWP) was founded in 1995 as a ministry for School Sisters of Notre Dame to help teach English to Vietnamese immigrants. In the last 25 years IRWP has grown to serve 350 students from over on an annual basis representing over 72 countries. Our mission is to increase the independence to reduce isolation of immigrant and refugee women (and men) by teaching them basic English and practical living skills in the security of their own home. IRWP matches volunteer teachers with adult immigrant and refugee learners in our community to develop English and life skills. Along the way, our teachers and students create new friendships and learn about each other. Volunteers are not required to have any formal teaching experience ,and classes are conducted for two hours a week in student’s homes.
